Transliterationen

Important rules for a successful transcription

  1. Transcription is in pausal form.
  2. The first word always in capital++++ Example: "Iḏā", "Auǧ", "Anā"
  3. Give a space if you give just one word: Example, "faʿalū ", "raḥmah ".
  4. For long vowels in "Status Constructus", one should always insert the Long vowel (ā, ī, ū) (Do not worry! For RAK, your input will be turned into a correct transcription automatically!). Example, input: "Muġnī 'l-labīb" => LoC: "Mughnī al-labīb"; RAK: "Muġni 'l-labīb".
  5. For generating tāʾ-tamarbūta (in LoC = h) at the end of a word for the LoC script , one should wirte "h" in the input script(Do not worry! For RAK, your input will be turned into a correct transcription automatically!). Example, input: "ar-risālah" => LoC: "al-risālah"; RAK: "al-risāla".
  6. For generating the alif maqsura (in LoC = á) one should always insert it in the input. Example, input: "ʿalá raʾsihi", "ilá 'l-bait" => Loc: "ʿalá raʾsihi", "ilá al-bayt"; RAK: "ʿalā raʾsihi", "ila 'l-bait".
  7. The ta-marbuta in "status constructus" should be given with "tt". When the ta-marbuta is NOT in status constructus, it should be given by "ht": Example, "Hidāyatt al-murtāb" aber "ar-Risālaht al-ʿamalīyaht".
  8. For the words "Ibn-", "Bin-", "Bint-" "Uḫt-" and "Sibṭ-", when they are NOT at the beginning of sentences, and yet they represent the FIRST part of the name, they are written in LoC with UPPER CASE. Show this by inputing them as such: "Ibnn", "Binn", "Bintt-", "Uḫtt-" and "Sibṭṭ-" (Do not worry! For RAK, your input will be turned into a correct transcription automatically!) Example, input: "Šarḥ Ibnn-ʿAqīl" => LoC: "Sharḥ Ibn ʿAqīl"; RAK: "Šarḥ Ibn-ʿAqīl". Achtung die Fälle, wo vor "Ibn-" etwas steht: al-maʿrūf bi-Ibn-ʿAsākir. Hier nur EINMAL "n"!!!
  9. For words which in LoC transcription might lead to a mispronouciation of the word in Arabic or English, or where we need to show a separation between word compounds, we should "'" in LoC transcription. (such as al-Az'har, to avoid al-Azhar). Show this in your input by setting "_", where we need in LoC "'". Example, input: "Ad_hamī", "Šaiḫ_zādaā" => Loc: "Ad'hamī", "Shaykh'zādah"; RAK: "Adhamī", "Šaiḫ-zāda".
