Kunstbibliothek is one of the world's largest and most prestigious museum libraries. In addition to coordinating
Archäologische Bibliothek and Lipperheidesche Kostümbibliothek, it is also an important partner to the specialist
libraries of Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Kunstbibliothek oversees comprehensive museum collections with more than
a million objects. The library's network encompasses three sites: Kulturforum (Museumssammlungen,
Kunstwissenschaftliche Bibliothek), Archäologisches Zentrum (Archäologische Bibliothek) and Museum für Fotografie
(exhibition centre for the photography collection). As a fourth site, a library for non-European ethnology and art
history is planned at Humboldt-Forum.
Collection history
After 1900, twelve Oriental manuscripts were integrated into the already existing Sammlung Grisebach, a collection
of European books from about 1470 to 1800.
